Do note that the particular unit featured in this article is sponsored by Sterra and it has Ionic technology, rather than UV-Tech (also sold by Sterra). However, the opinions in this post are our own.

First Impressions Of The Sterra Moon Air Purifier
The Sterra Moon Air Purifier comes in 2 neutral shades – white (Snow White) or a dark gray (Space Gray).
Our unit is white and that suits us fine since our cats shed white fur. The white hairs would be very obvious on a dark gray unit.
It came well-packed. The power supply and charging cables are stored inside the unit, along with the filter. You can access these from the bottom of the Sterra Moon Air Purifier.
We did not have to look at the manual to set up the Sterra Moon Air Purifier:
It is as simple as slipping the filter out of its plastic and putting it back before closing the bottom lid. The lid closes and opens by twist it clockwise/ anti-clockwise.
What’s unusual about the Sterra Moon Air Purifier (besides the big eyeball on top) is the lack of buttons present on the body of the air purifier. The rounded profile of the main body feels kid-safe.
Using The Sterra Moon Air Purifier Manually
To turn on the Sterra Moon Air Purifier, you can plug it in and turn on the wall switch. The eyeball rotates upwards. And the air purifier begins automatically detecting the air quality in your home. During this process, the center ring will change colors.
It will adjust the fan speed accordingly when it is done. Different colors indicate air quality but the one that the Sterra Moon Air Purifier settles on is the final reading – blue for good air quality, yellow for normal air quality, and red for poor air quality.
If you do want to change the fan speed yourself, you can tilt the eyeball up or down. The manual states that a small tilt angle increases the fan speed, and vice versa.
But what we find is that gently tilting up the eyeball increases the fan speed. And tilting down reduces the fan speed. Which is more intuitive that what is written in the manual.
And if you tilt past the halfway point (either up or down), the Sterra Moon Air Purifier will power down.
Note: When tilting the orb to change the fan speed, don’t touch the center ring. This will shut down the appliance
Companion App For The Sterra Moon Air Purifier
If you want to remotely control the air purifier, monitor air quality, or use the scheduling function, you will need to download the Smart Life app.
Smart Life is the companion app for Sterra Moon Air Purifier. There is a QR code in the manual that will take you directly to the app store so you can download it.
Note: If you have any Tuya appliances, Smart Life is very similar to the Tuya app.
Register an account with your email and you can start connecting to the Sterra Moon Air Purifier.
Connecting To The Sterra Moon Air Purifier
This is tricky if you have no prior experience with connecting to Smart appliances.
We tried both the automatic and manual methods in the manual and the manual method worked for us.
Note: The manual is only in English and does not have each step shown in pictures.
What is important to note is that the Sterra Moon Air Purifier requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. It cannot connect to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. Your home Wi-Fi router should have both so choose that one that displays 2.4G in the network name.
When connection is successful, you will be able to switch off, change fan speeds, see the current air quality, or schedule when to turn on and turn off the Sterra Moon Air Purifier.
The app is the only way you can turn off the ion (or UV) function with the Sterra Moon Air Purifier.
Performance Of The Sterra Moon Air Purifier
There’s no haze right now where we live. Or any smokers in our household.
And we have not had the Sterra Moon Air Purifier long enough to see how well it works with all the pet fur in our home.
One noticeable way that it does help is with reducing odors in our home (e.g. bathroom emergencies or used cat litter).
How Noisy Is The Sterra Moon Air Purifier?
In our opinion, this is one of the best things about the Sterra Moon Air Purifier. Even if you walk past the Sterra Moon Air Purifier, you will not hear it at all on the lowest fan speed.
So light sleepers can rest easy (pun intended).
Medium fan speed is acceptable too. But the highest fan speed is probably not something you want to hear all day long. Which is fine since it is best for situations where the air quality is bad.
Readings: (With air conditioner on in the background)
- Low: 40.2dB
- Medium: 57.5dB
- High: 66.2dB
Conclusion
If you are looking for a quiet air purifier that will also be a statement piece in your home, the Sterra Moon Air Purifier has that aspect down. And it is versatile since you can use it manually or as a Smart appliance.
Its coverage is not small either, so you can carry this lightweight air purifier pretty much anywhere that you need it in your home.
Additionally, it does help with reducing odors and fur (to an extent) and freshening up the air so those with pets or allergies can consider the Sterra Moon Air Purifier.
But if killing germs is your goal, you might want to check out the Sterra Moon Air Purifier with UV Tech instead!
