Table Of Contents:

13 Best Dash Cams In Malaysia 2023

Our recommendations:

Best Budget Dash Cam

1. GOQ D208 Front & Back Dual Lens Dash Cam

For the price, the GOQ D208 Front & Back Dual Lens Dash Cam seems like a good deal!

It has a wide viewing range, night vision, HD 1080p (front), 720p (rear) and a G-sensor among other desirable functions!

GOQ D208 Front & Back Dual Lens Dash Cam

Do note that the wide angle is not applicable for the reverse camera. The dash cam is easy to install but you have to put the front camera in the middle.

Furthermore, the feedback display of the front camera is fixed on the right, which does block your view of the rear or of passengers in your car.

At ~RM60, you cannot expect crystal-clear footage (especially the average quality of the rear camera) but it’s still better than not having a dash cam!

If you drive a lot (and at night in particular), you’d be better off investing in another dash camera than the GOQ D208 Front & Back Dual Lens Dash Cam!

Nighttime performance:

  • Vision Range: 170° Wide Angle (Front); 120° (Rear)
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Full HD (Front); 640 x 480 VGA (Rear)
  • Display Screen: 4.3″ LCD Screen
  • Loop Recording: Yes
  • Night Vision: Yes
  • Mirror Dimensions: 300 x 83 mm
  • Storage Capacity: Micro SD Card support up to 32GB
  • Connectivity: WiFi, App
  • Backup Power: Battery 200mAh
  • Features: G-Sensor, Motion Detection, Automatically On/ Off, WDR
  • Warranty: 3 months
  • Price From: ~RM55 – 65

Pros:

  • Cheap
  • Daytime footage quality is acceptable (for front camera)
  • Easy to self-install
  • Wide angle for front camera (170°)

Cons:

  • Feedback display of front camera obstructs driver’s view
  • Manual font is very small
  • Poor nighttime recording capability
  • Rear camera quality is low
  • Small memory storage

2. Xiaomi 70MAI Smart Dash Cam 1S

Xiaomi’s 70MAI Smart Dash Cam 1S uses a SONY IMX323 image sensor with high resolution night vision! Voice control and emergency recordings further contribute to the 70MAI’s appeal!

There is no screen but you can connect the camera to the 70MAI dedicated app to view the recordings on your phone!

Xiaomi 70MAI Smart Dash Cam 1S

The app is easy to use and lets you do a lot. You can upload videos to watch on your Smart TV or adjust the sensitivity of the G sensor.

Xiaomi’s 70MAI Smart Dash Cam 1S is also a much superior budget dash cam compared to the cheaper GOQ D208 Front & Back Dual Lens Dash Cam! With voice command too!

It’s also easy to install with the clear instructions and included accessories (e.g., clips, adhesive, long cable).

But unlike the GOQ D208, the video quality is great – you will be able to see car plates! Even on a gloomy day. Its performance at night is satisfactory too.

Most importantly, it will not obstruct the driver’s view of sight with its small build! The Xiaomi 70MAI Smart Dash Cam 1S is a budget-friendly and beginner-friendly dash cam that is not to be ignored!

As long as you can do without having a screen!

PS: You may not want to get this dash cam for elders who are not familiar with Smartphones too!

Notes:

  • CPU uses MSC8336D
  • If you want to attach this camera to the back of your car, you will need a rear-end cigarette port!
  • A 64GB microSD card will record roughly 9 hours of 1080p footage.
  • Shares the same sensor as the Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite but with lower battery capacity
  • Just a single button on this camera
  • Vision Range: 130° Wide Angle
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Full HD
  • Loop Recording: Yes
  • Night Vision: Yes
  • Image Sensor: SONY IMX323
  • Dimensions: 91 x 52 x 31.5 cm
  • Storage Capacity: Micro SD Card support up to 64GB
  • Connectivity: WiFi, App & Voice Control
  • Backup Power: Battery 240mAh
  • Features: G-Sensor, WDR
  • Warranty: 1 year
  • Price From: ~RM135

Pros:

  • Simple setup and use
  • Decent front and rear camera video quality
  • Acceptable for night use
  • Large memory storage potential (64GB)
  • Can be connected to your Smartphone for app control
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Without a display screen
  • Lithium ion battery, not a super capacitor

3. GOQ T685 Car Dash Camera

No denying that the GOQ T685 Car Dash Camera is an incredible bargain! You get a 1080p front camera, a 480p back camera, and a reverse parking system for ~RM100!

GOQ T685 Car Dash Camera

And there’s loop recording and a G-sensor (for impact detection) too!

Instructions from the given manual are helpful enough for self-installation of the compact dash cam. And the night video quality is decent.

Of the drawbacks:

It doesn’t have WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity.

Besides this, the dashcam heats up quickly (just 10 minutes’ of operation), and you can’t always tell what license plates read (e.g., 2-3 cars away). Especially with what you get from the rear camera.

GOQ T685 Car Dash Camera With Rear Camera

You have to very careful when placing in the TF card. There’s nothing to stop the card from going too deep into the dash cam. So it may get stuck!

Note: Needs a genuine Class 10 TF card. TF card is another name for a micro SD card.

If you don’t mind these inconveniences, and want an affordable dash cam that can help you with reverse parking, you can try the GOQ T685 Car Dash Camera!

  • Vision Range: 170° Wide Angle (Front); 120° (Rear)

  • Many features for the price – With reverse parking function, G-sensor, and night vision
  • Has a display screen

Cons:

  • Lithium battery
  • Negligible warranty period
  • No WiFi support
  • Heats up fast
  • Fiddly micro SD card slot
  • Rear camera resolution is low (480p)

4. Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite

Forgoing extra features like voice control and a built-in GPS, the Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite still records in full HD with clear night vision. Courtesy of the same SONY IMX307 image sensor!

Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite

Externally, it has its own screen (which is clear) and looks just like the Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Pro.

The video quality is really satisfactory but noticeably lower than what you would get with the Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Pro. Not hence, the Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite is not the greatest dash cam for frequent night driving!

And the user-friendly app makes it very easy to access your footage! It does not take a lot of effort to set up either! It looks very discreet and can be hidden behind the rear view mirror.

Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite (Front View)

The speakers of the Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Lite are unusually loud. Even at the lowest setting. Something which does not happen with the  Xiaomi 70MAI Dash Cam Pro.

So you may want to change the settings to silent alerts instead.

Other than that, this dash cam has a parking mode that you can use without a hardwire kit. As there is a built-in battery.

Closer look:

  • Vision Range: 130° Wide Angle
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Full HD

  • Inexpensive
  • With a good screen display and parking mode

Cons:

  • Doesn’t use a super capacitor for its back up battery
  • Annoying loud alerts

Best Mid-range Dash Cam

5. AZDOME M17 Pro Best Feature-Packed Dash Cam

The AZDOME M17 Pro is our pick as the best feature-packed dash cam. It comes at a considerable discount to other dash cams on our list without compromising on features. The first standout feature is 2304 x 1296p resolution and 30FPS recording.

This is 1.5x sharper than traditional 1920 x 1080p resolution dash cams.

AZDOME M17 PRO

The AZDOME M17 Pro features a 6-layer Glass Lens to help increase sharpness, colour accuracy, and brightness control. This helps footage remain sharp even in poor lighting conditions, especially when driving at night or through dark areas.

There is a wide 150° field of view on the front cam and a 130° field of view on the rear cam. The wider field of view is very useful to ensure the camera records everything in sight.

When compared to a dash cam with the same resolution, the 70mai M300, the AZDOME M17 Pro has wider 150° field of view, dual-channel recording, and an ADAS safety system.

The ADAS safety system is incredibly useful when driving:

It warns you when you’re not in the proper lane.

Besides this, it also measures the distance between you and cars in front of you up to 50 meters. If you reach 10 meters or closer, the M17 Pro will beep and warn you. It can keep you awake by beeping every 1/2/4 hour when driving for long distances too.

The AZDOME M17 Pro also includes dual-channel recording (if you buy the rear cam). The 70mai M300 is more expensive than the AZDOME M17 Pro if you opt for the rear cam too.

With these built-in features, the AZDOME M17 Pro is a much better bargain compared to the 70mai M300. Even if both models have the same resolution and similar prices.

  • Display: 3” lPS
  • Image Sensor (Front): GC2053
  • Type: 250mAh Battery
  • Connectivity: WiFi, App Control
  • Warranty: 1 year

Pros:

  • Sharp 1296p resolution
  • ADAS safety system is practical
  • 150° wide viewing angle
  • Simultaneous dual-channel support
  • 3” IPS Display

Cons:

  • No GPS support
  • Rear cam has low resolution (480p)

6. DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3 is the fact that it harnesses a super capacitor as its backup power source!

And for around RM250, we consider this to be the most budget-friendly dash cam (single-channel) with a super capacitor!

DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3 - Back

You can also opt for the version with built-in GPS or 24-hour parking mode (requires hardwire kit) to maximize its potential!

Both of which are worth getting because the GPS adds more useful information (e.g. speed and ADAS), while the parking mode works.

Regarding ADAS, the alerts are spoken rather than with beeps. Which don’t sound too great coming out of the average speakers. And can be inconsistent (e.g. car ahead, traffic light change, lane change).

Extra features aside, the recording quality of this dash cam is clear enough to view license plate numbers, even during nighttime.

For best results, you should use a 64GB card with this dash cam since it can record at 1600p.

DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3

The DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3 is easy to use and install. There is an instruction manual too.

And like the Xiaomi 70MAI Smart Dash Cam, the DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3 doesn’t have a screen so it is compact. Similarly, the DDPai Dash Cam Mola N3 has voice command too.

Either dash cam will use the same 70mai app. And with the app, you can easily synch uploads to your Smartphone, adjust recording settings, or take still images!

  • Backup Power: Supercapacitor
  • Features: GPS (Optional), G-Sensor, Parking Mode Monitor, WDR, ADAS, Super Capacitor

7. 70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S

70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S may be the upgraded version of the 3rd generation 70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S. Other predecessors include the 70mai Dashcam PRO and 70mai Dashcam PRO Plus A500.

70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S - Front

But it still uses the same image sensor, the SONY IMX335.

As for improvements:

70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S supports dual-channel (i.e. front and rear recording) together with the RC06 rear camera (sold separately).

This feature is not available for the 70mai Dashcam PRO Plus A500 or 70mai Dashcam PRO.

And where the previous 70mai Dashcam PRO required a separate GPS module, the 70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S has its own built-in GPS and ADAS.

Although, you will still need a hardwire kit (sold separately) to take advantage of the time-lapse feature for parking surveillance.

The dual-channel upgrade, GPS, ADAS, and high video quality make the 70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S worthwhile for those who are always on the road!

8. DDPAI Dash Cam Z40 – Best Value-for-Money Dash Cam

The DDPAI Dash Cam Z40 is our pick for a dash cam that is great value-for-money. It’s slightly pricier than typical dash cams but the DDPAI Z40 is worth it for everything it offers at a reasonable price.

Firstly, the DDPAI Z40 has a sharp 2592 x 1944p resolution.

DDPAI Dash Cam Z40

This is thanks to the 5MP Sony IMX 335 video sensor which increases colour accuracy and sharpness of the recording. The DDPAI Z40 also has Realcube Image Technology (built-in algorithms) to enhance brightness, colour accuracy, and overall picture quality.

The sensor is already sharp as is, but with the bonus of Realcube Image Technology, the video looks much clearer. This is especially important for low-light environments when driving at night or on roads with no streetlights.

Moreover, the DDPAI Z40 has an option for dual-channel recording on the front and rear cams simultaneously.

But you’ll need to purchase the additional rear cam. The front cam has a 140° wide viewing angle while the rear cam has a 125° field of view. These are in line with most dash cams in the market.

Compared to another dash cam, the 70mai A400, the DDPAI Z40 has higher 1944p resolution, Sony IMX 335 sensor, and a super-capacitor battery. The 70mai A400 on the other hand, has 1440p resolution and a lithium battery.

In general, super-capacitor batteries are more reliable and durable. They can withstand extreme temperatures and will last longer than lithium batteries. The higher resolution and Sony video sensor of the DDPAI Z40 are also more useful for common driving situations too.

Plus, the DDPAI Z40 has a built-in microphone is useful when checking dash cam footage. Considering the two are very similarly priced, the DDPAI Z40 simply has more to offer at the price (than the 70mai A400).

  • Display: 2” lPS
  • Image Sensor (Front): SONY IMX335
  • Type: Super Capacitor
  • Connectivity: WiFi, App Control
  • Warranty: 1.5 years

Pros:

  • High 1944p resolution
  • Dual-channel recording is possible
  • Realcube Image Technology Enhancement Features (better brightness, colour, sharpness)
  • Super capacitor battery

Cons:

  • App is confusing to use & outdated

9. Xiaomi 70MAI Rearview Dash Cam

Xiaomi 70MAI Rearview Dash Cam looks neat in your car. As the most of the wiring can be hidden.

The companion 70Mai app is pleasant to use – as we already mentioned with other Xiaomi 70Mai models.

And as you would expect from the price and the 70Mai range, this dash cam also uses a lithium ion battery. Instead of a super capacitor.

Together with the optional 70MAI Night Vision Backup Camera/Rear Camera*, there’s real-time feedback as you reverse.

And when driving at night, the camera* will not pick up glare from cars behind!

Furthermore, the 9.35 inch screen automatically gets brighter at night. But most importantly, you won’t have blind spots!

The optional 70MAI Night Vision Backup Camera/Rear Camera can also be used in place of a side mirror. As it is waterproof (rated IP67)!

This combination of the Xiaomi 70MAI Rearview Dash Cam and 70MAI Night Vision Backup Camera/Rear Camera (1080p) would serve nighttime drivers well!

And would still cost less than the VIOFO A129 Duo Dash Cam With GPS that has a 1080p rear camera too!

But you would lose out on the GPS, super capacitor, and parking surveillance functionality that come with the VIOFO A129 Duo Dash Cam!

Xiaomi 70MAI Rearview Dash Cam

Best Premium Dash Cam

10. 70mai Dash Cam A800s

If the resolution of the 70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S was not good enough for you:

You’ll need at least a 32GB MicroSD Card to use the high-resolution 70mai Dash Cam A800s. View the footage from the large 3-inch display screen!

70mai Dash Cam A800 Display

And like the 70mai Dashcam PRO PLUS+ A500S, you can pair it together with the 70mai RC06 Rear Camera for dual vision!

Although, it may be a better idea to just get 2 of these and use the second as the rear camera (i.e. greater clarity)!

Footage from the 70Mai A800s (at 1600p) is comparable to the Blackvue DR900s (at 4K) or the U1000 by Thinkware. As long as there is no direct sunlight!

But you’ll not have some of the conveniences that come with these premium dash cams (i.e. real time information).

70mai Dash Cam A800s

The 70Mai A800s also looks similar to 70Mai Pro Plus+ A500s. And as of Feb 2021, the 70Mai A800 has been replaced by 70Mai A800s. Both still use the same Sony STARVIS IMX415 sensor (front camera).

The only real difference between the 70Mai A800 and A800s is the processor (Sigmastar SSC8629G).

And unfortunately, the A800s still uses a lithium battery instead of a super capacitor. Moreover, the parking surveillance function is has not improved significantly.

Note: Parking surveillance function will last longer with hardwire kit (sold separately); default duration is 10 minutes without hardwire kit.

  • Vision Range: 140° Wide Angle
  • Resolution: 4K Ultra HD, Up to 3840*2160
  • Display Screen: 3″
  • Loop Recording: Yes
  • Night Vision: Yes, Super Night Vision with 3D Dynamic Noise Reduction
  • Image Sensor: Sony IMX 415 CMOS
  • Dimensions: 89 x 60 x 36 mm
  • Storage Capacity: MicroSD Card support up to 128GB
  • Connectivity: In-app Control, WiFi
  • Backup Power: Battery 500mAh
  • Features: Built-in GPS, Footage Sharing, Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS), 3D DNR
  • Extra Accessories: 70mai RC06 Rear Camera, 70mai Hardware Kit (For Parking Mode Monitor)
  • Warranty: 1 year
  • Price From: ~From RM499

Pros:

  • Affordable with both front and rear cams
  • Video recording quality is comparable to high-end dash cams
  • Impressive feature set for price
  • Easily adjustable lens angle
  • Built-in GPS
  • Display is still visible under bright daylight
  • Great mount design
  • Can be controlled via app or physical buttons on the dash cam
  • ADAS (Advanced Driver Assisted System) is accurate (possibly better than the U1000 by Thinkware)
  • Night footage is very good for the price
  • Can download footage straight to phone (without removing SD card)
  • Audio quality is satisfactory

Cons:

  • No voice control
  • Rear sensor is only rated for 2MP
  • No timelapse parking mode
  • Battery, not capacitor-operated

11. AZDOME M550 – Best 3-Channel Dash Cam

If you’re looking for the best 3-channel dash cam, we would go with the AZDOME M550. It can record three areas at once; the front, rear, and cabin.

Note: There aren’t that many other reliable options available at the moment

Another highlight of the AZDOME M550 is the true 4K 3840 x 2160p resolution on the front cam and 1920 x 1080p resolution on both the cabin & rear cams.

AZDOME M550

It also supports Super Night Vision that uses processing and a large aperture for clear footage in low-light environments.

All this is displayed on the 3.17-inch LCD. Images on the recording look sharp, colour accurate, and the built-in noise reduction works great. The AZDOME M550 also supports motion and impact detection if you hardwire it to your car.

And the AZDOME M550 has built-in GPS. What is nice is that you don’t need to pay extra for this functionality like on other dash cams. You can access records of your car with the AZDOME app. You can also track the GPS to find your car.

Unfortunately, the AZDOME M550 doesn’t have the ADAS safety system like the AZDOME M17 Pro. But the higher resolution and 3-Channel support make up for this missing feature.

Compared to another 3-Channel dash cam, the SIPII SP400, the AZDOME M550 has a bigger LCD display, built-in GPS, and wider viewing angles (front – 150° field of view, back – 130° field of view). And the AZDOME M550 is considerably cheaper too.

Almost every aspect of the AZDOME M550 beats out the SIPII SP400.  Hence, it’s a clear winner for the price.

But the AZDOME M550 is more expensive than many other dual-channel dash cams. But it is worth it for everything it offers.

Check out the promo video for a look at the AZDOME M550:

  • Display: 3.17” lPS
  • Image Sensor (Front): GC4653
  • Type: Super Capacitor
  • Connectivity: WiFi, App Control, Built-in GPS
  • Warranty: 1 year

Pros:

  • 3-Channel recording (Front, Rear, Cabin)
  • Built-in GPS module
  • Wide viewing angles
  • High resolution for all 3 cameras (4K resolution front cam, 1920 x 1080p for both cabin and rear cameras)
  • With motion detection support

Cons:

  • Slightly pricey
  • No ADAS Safety System (e.g., lane correction)

12. VIOFO A129 Duo Dash Cam With GPS

Along with the Novatek NT96663Video Processor, the VIOFO A129 Duo Dash Cam (With GPS) has an impressive image sensor (Sony STARVIS IMX291 CMOS Sensor) for both its front and rear cameras!

Indeed, the video quality at night is truly commendable! You get 1080p for both the front and rear camera! A sweet deal for the price!

VIOFO A129 Duo Dash Cam With GPS

Note: It would be even better if you had a polarizer for the lens to reduce glare.

Plus, you can set it to save details like the record date, time, location and speed!

This dash cam may also have a display screen but you can barely see it in glaring daylight. Luckily, it can reliably connect to your phone via Bluetooth!

The parking function could be better as the buffered parking suffers from some inconsistency. However, the low-bit parking mode should be enough for most users.

Do not cheap out on the micro SD card! This dash cam requires high endurance cards. A 64GB card can save slightly more than a week’s worth of footage from both front and rear cameras.

We like that the VIOFO A129 Duo Dash Cam has a super capacitor instead of batteries too. And so this is our favorite dash cam for under RM1,000!

Some setbacks you may encounter:

The cable for the rear camera is not easy to hide under trimming (i.e. too thick). And the app is difficult to connect to. But once, you get it going, it makes transferring files a breeze!

Note:

  • There is the option of adding on an external GPS. Or polarizing lens for the camera lens to reduce glare!
  • 3M stickers to attach the cameras
  • Vision Range: 140° Wide Angle (Front & Rear)
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080P Full HD 30FPS (Front & Rear)
  • Display Screen: 2″ HD LCD Display
  • Loop Recording: Yes

13. Thinkware Dash Cam U1000 With Rear Camera

This dual vision camera is Thinkware’s (from South Korea) flagship model into the 4K UHD video territory. With 2K for the rear camera!

Most dash cams don’t even give you 1K for the rear camera, let alone 2K!

Thinkware Dash Cam U1000 - Best Front And Rear Dash Cam Malaysia

The Thinkware Dash Cam U1000 With Rear Camera is able to deliver clear front footage even at night!  Thanks to the Sony STARVIS Image sensor. It can double as a driving assistant too!

One other key feature is that you can view live footage remotely via cloud storage! And you will even receive notifications if there is any impact to your car!

Despite coming out much earlier than other dash cams (2019), the Thinkware U1000 is still a fantastic dash cam and holds its own against rivals like the Blackvue dash cams!

While Blackvue has the upper hand when it comes to software (cloud connectivity and features):

The Thinkware U1000 still has better 4K video quality than either the Blackvue DR900S or X. The video quality is comparable to the VIOFO A129 Pro.

4K Sample footage from Thinkware U1000:

Parking surveillance is another area that the Thinkware U1000 excels at:

It is able to record the entire incident (if any) while your car is parked (requires hardwiring)! With the timelapse, impact and energy-saving modes.

The addition of the unique radar module has further improves long term parking surveillance.  By waking up dashcam for a higher chance of recording an incident before it happens!

In conclusion, the Thinkware U1000 has great hardware. We also appreciate minor details like the conveniently placed emergency button, quick-release mount, adjustable lens angle, etc.

The software could use improvements (i.e.to reduce false reports and numerous voice alerts, better cloud connectivity) but these will hopefully be resolved in the future!

And you can expect the Thinkware U1000 to last a lot longer than other dash cams too!

Note: Hardwire Kit is included.
