Get the best electric kettle in Malaysia so that it will last you longer! Use it after your water filter to ensure clean drinking water! Or to make coffee and tea with ease!

Avoid the cheaper plastic electric kettles as chemicals from plastic will leach into your water over time.

Electric kettle prices in Malaysia depend on the brand and make. Fancy ones cost as much as ~RM500. The electric water kettles in this list are around RM100-200.

Table Of Contents:

Types Of Kettle

Electric kettles come in 2 forms. There’s no real benefit or disadvantage between them. It just depends on which shape you prefer.

Or where you like to pick up the kettle!

Both types can come in a variety of materials and finishes – plastic, glass, stainless steel, chrome, etc.

1. Dome/Pyramid Kettle

Handle is on the top. Base is fatter. Like a regular stove-top kettle! The lid is usually not attached to the jug.

2. Jug Kettle

Taller, narrower shape. With a side handle. Typically has a hinge and extra button for the lid to pop open.

11 Best Electric Kettles In Malaysia 2023

Most of these kettles in this list are jug kettles.

Which does not mean that jug kettles work better than pyramid kettles! Rather, it’s just that people seem to like the modern look of jug-style kettles more!

Our recommendations:

  • Best Budget Electric Kettle (~RM80) – Midea MK-15D Cool Touch Series 1.5L Jug Kettle
  • Best Basic (High Quality) Electric Kettle – Toshiba KT-17DR1NMY Cold Touch 1.7L Jug Kettle
  • Best Minimalist Design – Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle
  • Best Designer Electric Kettle – Delonghi KBI2001 Distinta Flair 1.7L Kettle
  • Best Large Capacity Electric Kettle – Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle
  • Best Versatile Electric Kettle – Bear Health Pot Electric 1.8L Glass Kettle BHP-W18L

1. Bear Health Pot Electric 1.8L Glass Kettle BHP-W18L

Unless you have a really small household or only plan to drink two cups maximum at a time:

The Bear Health Pot Electric 1.8L Glass Kettle BHP-W18L (in pink or white) has a bigger and hence more practical capacity than the Bear Health Pot Electric Kettle YSH-A15W6 (1.5L).

Bear Electric Kettle BHP-W18L And Accessories
Bear Electric Kettle BHP-W18L And Accessories

However, the Bear Health Pot Electric 1.8L Glass Kettle BHP-W18L has a glass strainer instead of the stainless steel that comes with the smaller Bear Health Pot Electric Kettle YSH-A15W6

Note: If you use the glass strainer or glass double boiler, these will displace some of the liquid so essentially, you really get less than 1.5L of liquid with the BHP-W18L after boiling.

Both of these kettles have a similar design – glass with plastic handles, and a flat base with 20 pre-set functions (in English and Chinese). One of these options is to boil water, and at full, the BHP-W18L takes around 8 minutes.

Boiling Water With The Bear Electric Kettle BHP-W18L

While it’s convenient to use, what we don’t really like about the Bear Health Pot Electric 1.8L Glass Kettle BHP-W18L is the silicone adapter ring.

The ring is useful as a non-insulative handle for holding the strainer or double boiler. But you can’t put the strainer or double boiler inside the BHP-W18L without using this ring.

Hence, the silicone does come in contact with steam and the heat from the steel of the lid. We feel like this could be a health concern for long term use.

Boiling Flower Tea With The Bear Electric Kettle BHP-W18L
Boiling Flower Tea With The Bear Electric Kettle BHP-W18L

But if this does not bother you, the Bear Health Pot Electric 1.8L Glass Kettle BHP-W18L looks like a great companion for boiling eggs or brewing bird’s nest, flower tea, white fungus, cordyceps, Chinese desserts, porridge, etc without the need to monitor it.

Because it automatically flips to keep warm after the time limit is reached. You can also change the temperature and add more time after selecting a pre-set.

  • Water Capacity: 1.8L
  • Power: 1100 W
  • Weight: 2kg
  • Dimensions (W x H x D): 230 x 180 x 245 mm
  • Cord Length: ~86cm (not including plug)
  • Main Body Material: Glass
  • Up-lid Material: Stainless Steel
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Price: ~RM215

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Cleaning is no issue as long as you avoid the electrical parts underneath the kettle
  • Sufficient capacity for a small household (i.e., around 6 cups)
  • Automatic keep warm
  • Clear labels
  • Quiet in operation
  • Stainless steel upper lid
  • Looks nice
  • Design allows you to use a double boiler or strainer
  • Temperature display is a nice feature to have

Cons:

  • Takes quite long to boil water
  • Glass for the kettle, strainer, and double boiler seem thin
  • Potential cause for concern – silicone ring will be exposed to high heat
  • Cord is a bit short

2. Tefal KO2608 Safe Tea 1.7L Kettle

French cookware brand, Tefal has a stylish shiny black electric kettle that’s well insulated. Keeping the water warm even after 2 hours!

Tefal 1.7L Kettle KO2608

The inside (including inner lid and lip of the kettle) is all seamless stainless steel so you can rest easy that your water will remain odorless! And there’s a light at the switch that will let you know when boiling is in progress!

At max level, the entire boiling process takes only 5 minutes. But the boiling sound can be quite loud. The lid tends to snap shut loudly too.

However, this kettle will not shake while boiling. Refilling and cleaning is easy, as the lid opens quite wide.

Overall, the Tefal KO2608 is safe to touch. It can feel warm on the outside, but never hot!

You may notice that there is no anti scale filter or a water level gauge with this electric kettle. There is only a max level indicator for the water level on the interior.

  • Slightly loud noise when boiling
  • Can be quite heavy and loud when closing the lid

3. Midea MK-15D Cool Touch Series 1.5L Jug Kettle

Plain but functional, jug-type Midea MK-15D has a double-insulated body of plastic and stainless steel. Keeping your water hot and your hands from burning! The water may stay warm until the next morning too!

The stainless steel lid pops up and there’s a charging base that allows the kettle to rotate all around (i.e.360 degrees).

Midea MK-15D Cool Touch Series 1.5L Jug Kettle

It only takes less than 4 minutes to boil a full 1.5L jug of water! But bear in mind, you have to be careful and not fill up the jug beyond the maximum liter indicated or the water will spill out.

And it can be quite noisy while boiling water. You can’t see the water level indicator on the outside either.

But for a modern and classy look, the Midea MK-15D is a budget electric kettle for less than RM100 with large capacity. And it boils quickly while keeping your water warm.

  • Water Capacity: 1.5L
  • Power: 1,800 – 2,150 W
  • Weight: 1.11kg

  • Inexpensive

  • Boiling sound quite loud
  • Can’t see the water level from outside

4. Faber FCK DW 2200 1.7L Electric Kettle

Faber’s FCK DW 2200 is a solid black jug kettle with a stainless steel seamless interior. Although the lid is attached to the kettle, the wide opening makes it easy to clean!

Faber FCK DW 2200 1.7L Electric Kettle

It’s cordless too. And you won’t have to worry about the handle getting hot because it has a safe touch exterior surface! Just watch the top because steam tends to escape from the edges of the lid!

Water can be boiled within 5 minutes! Upon the first use though, there will be a metallic smell in the water. But it’s only temporary!

The cable is quite short. And like the Midea MK-15D, there is no water level indicator on the outside.

Among the other kettles in this list, the Faber FCK DW 2200 weighs the heaviest, so you have to keep this in mind before buying.

Note: Body gets fingerprints easily.

  • Water Capacity: 1.7L

5. Toshiba KT-17SH1NMY Stainless Steel 1.7L Electric Jug Kettle

Light for its size, Toshiba KT-17SH1NMY uses 304 Food Grade Stainless Steel on the interior as well as the exterior. Which is not prone to odours or stains!

Toshiba KT-17SH1NMY Stainless Steel 1.7L Electric Jug Kettle

In fact, this electric kettle is the lightest among the others on this list too, weighing less than 1kg!

Even the lid is stainless steel, not just the body! And nothing escapes that lid once the lock is down! This is a good bargain for an electric kettle with a Strix thermostat!

With this electric kettle, it only takes 3 to 4 minutes to boil water. But is quite loud while boiling.

Be careful not to go over the max line or water can spill out while boiling. In addition, the cover of this kettle is quite wide and unobtrusive, making it easy to clean.

For small households with less than 5 people, the Toshiba KT-17SH1NMY would be a good choice.

However, the Toshiba KT-17SH1NMY is not double-walled. So it will be hot on the outside. Hence, if you have small kids, it is not advisable to get this kettle.

Instead, opt for kettles with double-wall insulation. Such as the Midea MK-15D Cool Touch Series 1.5L Jug Kettle.

Closer look at its finishing:

Note: The interior is not seamless and this is not a double-walled kettle.

  • Water Capacity: 1.7L
  • Power: 1,850 – 2,200 W
  • Weight: 0.95kg
  • Dimensions: 21.5 x 24 x 15 cm (W x H x D)

  • Slightly loud when boiling

6. Xiaomi Mijia 1A 1.5L Electric Kettle

Completely white with a sleek minimalist design, Xiaomi Mijia has a Strix thermostat to ensure that the kettle doesn’t boil longer than it should!

Xiaomi Mijia 1A 1.5L Electric Kettle

Other desirable features include double-wall insulation, a seamless interior of stainless steel and additional protection against electric shock!

5 minutes is all it takes to boil 1.5L of water! But it is noisy. And when you first purchase this kettle, you need to boil it two to three times to remove the chemical smell.

The exterior of this kettle is made out of matte PP material which makes it heat-resistant. There’s a light indicator to show that boiling is in progress. And the bottom of the base hides the built-in cable storage.

Because the lid opens up to about 75°, the kettle is not difficult to clean or refill!

Do also note that the Xiaomi Mijia 1A 1.5L Electric Kettle has the shortest warranty of all the kettles in this list. And unfortunately, it doesn’t have a water level guage on the outside either.

Note: You’ll need to use a travel adaptor to be able to plug this into a Malaysian socket!

  • Water Capacity: 1.5L
  • Power: 1,800 W
  • Weight: 1.1kg
  • Dimensions: 15.2 x 25.2 x 21.6 cm (W x H x D)

  • Fast boiling

  • Need to use an adapter as it comes with a China plug
  • Boiling sound is quite loud
  • Short warranty

7. Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle

Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle bears almost the same appearance as the previous Faber FK 5005.

Both are 5L kettles with the same features (e.g., cool touch base, auto switch-off), and of similar dimensions too.

Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle

In fact, there’s no significant difference between them except for the slightly rounder profile of the newer Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle.

We like that the heating element is fully concealed. Which means you can’t see the heating unit when you open the kettle to refill it.

This does also mean that you get the full capacity stated since the heating element doesn’t take up room in the kettle.

If you can, try to get the Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle with 1 year warranty instead of 3 months. As this model does have quality issues from time to time.

Still, the Faber FK 5006 Stainless Steel 5.0L Automatic Electric Kettle is a great large capacity electric kettle to get for its price point.

  • Water Capacity: 5L
  • Power: 2,200 W
  • Weight: 1.67kg
  • Dimensions (W x H x D): 246 x 535 x 246 mm

  • Up-lid Material: Stainless Steel
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Price: ~RM100

  • Solid build
  • Affordable considering the water capacity
  • Not noisy when boiling is in progress

Cons:

  • Heavy
  • Some quality issues (e.g., not working, leaking, etc)

8. Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle

If you prefer a simple white minimalist design, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle also offers just the right amount of water with a reasonable price tag and good build quality too!

With its double-layer insulation, rest assured that you can have boiled water that can stay warm for several hours. The resulting water is odorless too.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle - Top

The kettle will also switch off on its own if there’s no more water (i.e. built-in boil-dry protection).

But depending where you get it from, buttons may be written in Chinese. Although, it’s not hard to figure out which one stands for boil and keep warm.

Furthermore, the boiling button isn’t very responsive. You may need to press it a couple of times before you can turn the kettle on.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle

In comparison to the Xiaomi Mijia 1A, this smart electric kettle allows you to monitor and even set the desired temperature (for up to 12 hours) using the Mi Home App via Bluetooth (not WiFi).

The Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle can also open slightly wider than the Xiaomi 1A (80° vs 75°).

If you like these additional features, you can opt for the pricier Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle over the cheaper Xiaomi Mijia 1A! Both have a similar appearance and the same boiling capacity!

Note: Check with the seller if they have the English version (with English app).

  • Water Capacity: 1.5L
  • Power: 1,800 W

9. Philips HD9350/92 Daily Collection 1.7L Kettle

This hardy stainless steel jug electric kettle by Phillips has a lot to offer:

Starting with the 360-degree base with non-slip grips, hidden cord storage and a spring lid that opens wide for convenient refilling!

Philips HD9350/92 Daily Collection 1.7L Kettle

There’s even a removable micro-mesh filter (200µm) to reduce limescale build up!

But the lid is made out of plastic, so the steam of the boiled water will condense onto the plastic lid and drip back into the water, affecting the taste of the water.

Boiling at full capacity (1.7L) takes less than 5 minutes!

We like that you can read the water level indicator from the outside too. And the LED indicator will be lit when the kettle is boiling.

Surprisingly, the Philips HD9350/92 does not have double-wall insulation. Hence, the exterior surface will be very hot after boiling. And it is a risk if you have younger children at home.

For safety, you should get the Toshiba KT-17DR1NMY or Tefal KO2608 Safe Tea 1.7L Kettle.

Note: Check with the seller that the warranty card has a stamp on it by Philips to make sure it is valid.

  • Water Capacity: 1.7L
  • Power: 1,850 – 2,200 W
  • Weight: n/a
  • Dimensions: 22.8 x 24.4 x 19.8 cm (W x H x D)
  • Cord Length: 0.75m
  • Inner Body Material: 304 Food Grade Stainless Steel
  • Up-lid Material: Plastic
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Price: ~RM130

Pros:

  • Removable micro-mesh filter
  • Less than 5 minutes to boil full water capacity
  • LED water level indicator on the outer surface

Cons:

  • No double insulation, not recommended if you have kids
  • Lid is made out of plastic

10. Toshiba KT-17DR1NMY Cold Touch 1.7L Jug Kettle

It looks a lot like the Toshiba KT-17SH1NMY earlier but with double-wall insulation! Which helps to keep your water warm for longer. Besides this, the kettle has a cool touch surface on the outside!

Toshiba KT-17DR1NMY Cold Touch 1.7L Jug Kettle

And there are other additional features like the anti-scale seamless interior. The design prevents water from flowing from the lid to your hands as well!

Additionally, there’s a large opening to easily fill in water or clean the interior. Boil water in this kettle in just 4 to 5 minutes!

But because this electric kettle doesn’t have a water level indicator:

It’s not as convenient as other jug kettles that have a water level indicator. Like the Philips HD9306/03 Daily Collection 1.5L Kettle or Philips HD9350/92 Daily Collection 1.7L Kettle.

All in all, the Toshiba KT-17DR1NMY offers the basic functions, a high quality build, double-wall insulation, anti-scale protection, and rapid boiling!

  • Water Capacity: 1.7L
  • Power: 1,800 – 2,150W
  • Weight: 1.22kg
  • Dimensions: n/a
  • Cord Length: n/a
  • Inner Body Material: 304 Food Grade Stainless Steel
  • Up-lid Material: Anti-splash 304 Food Grade Stainless Steel
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Price: ~RM139

Pros:

  • Double wall to reduce heat at exterior
  • Anti-scale stainless steel to prevent leakage and dirt build-up
  • Good build quality

Cons:

  • No water level indicator

11. Delonghi KBI2001 Distinta Flair 1.7L Kettle

Italian brand, Delonghi seldom disappoints with their striking designs and quality!

The stainless steel Distinta Flair 1.7L Kettle comes in a metallic finish of 3 different colors (red, silver and blue). Fingerprints don’t show up on the body either! And matches a toaster in the same range!

Delonghi KBI2001 Distinta Flair 1.7L Kettle

And even though it’s a jug type, the lid is detachable because it’s a clip-on, rather than the regular push button! So is the filter!

The water level indicator appears outside, which makes it convenient to see! Once you turn it on, there’s a light indicator as well.

On top of that, the kettle will not turn on if the water level is too low. This could be a minor hindrance if you do want to boil small amounts of water only.

Aside from this, the Delonghi Distinta Flair 1.7L Kettle will automatically switch off once you detach the jug kettle from the base too!

The square nozzle is not just for show, it allows for optimum water flow compared to triangular ones.

If you care a lot about the aesthetics of home, this kettle is sure to be a great addition to your kitchen!

  • Water Capacity: 1.7L
  • Power: 2,000 W
  • Weight: 1.3kg

  • Expensive

How To Choose The Right Electric Kettle

1. Material

Plastic interior kettles are neither safe for your health nor long-lasting. Which is why we personally prefer stainless steel kettles over kettles lined with plastic. Even if the plastic is food grade BPA-free plastic! Because any plastic will eventually degrade with frequent use and high heat.

304 Food Grade Stainless Steel is what we specifically look out for when we choose an electric kettle.

The only downside of stainless steel (besides the higher price points) is that stains and spots can appear if you don’t wash them frequently!

Other than steel, there are glass kettles. And glass kettles can look great but there is always the risk of dropping and breaking them.

2. Speed

If the water takes a long time to boil, you might as well be using a conventional kettle over the stove! Most electric kettles can boil water within 3-4 minutes.

And with the best instant coffee in Malaysia, you can enjoy your cup of coffee in less than 5 minutes!

3. Size And Weight

Little personal kettles will boil water faster. But if there’s more than one person in your household, you’ll end up needing to boil multiple times a day!

On the other hand, larger kettles are generally heavy even before the water is in! They take longer to boil water too. However, boiling once is probably enough!

Another thing to note is how much counter space you have available! Or if you want to bring it along with you when you travel!

4. Complexity

Many kettles only have a single button to start the boiling process. Turning off when the water reaches boiling point.

Note: If you don’t need your water to reach boiling point, you can look into an instant hot water dispenser instead! Some allow you to choose the temperature too!

There may even be a keep warm function, much like a rice cooker!

And if you’re using a kettle mainly to make your daily cup of coffee and  tea:

Why not have a look at the best coffee makers too?

5. Cost

It goes without saying that a stainless steel kettle would cost more than one made of plastic!

Likewise, size and the number of features will play a part in raising the cost!

Aim to get a kettle around the RM100-RM200 range for a decent build and adequate capacity for a family!

6. Extra Features

  • Variable temperature setting/ control
  • Keep warm
  • Aesthetic design
  • Retractable cord
  • Minimum fill – is it possible just to boil one cup?
  • Cord length
  • Thermal insulation
  • Insulated handle
  • Noise level
  • Long warranty – shows that the brand has faith in its product
  • Water level indicator

Conclusion

Can’t figure out which is the best electric kettle for your household? You can see our recommendations at the top this list to get you started! Including local and international brands!

Arranged by budget and all with a stainless steel interior! Most are cord-free and can boil ~1-2L water within a few minutes!
