1. GOO.N Mommy Kiss Premium Diaper

GOO.N Mommy Kiss Premium Diapers
  • Features: High Absorbency (up to 12 hours), Air Flow, Japanese Quality
  • Available Size: M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL
  • Price: ~RM48.3

GOO.N Mommy Kiss Premium Diapers are very soft – the touch sheet contains natural cotton.

Furthermore, the GOO.N Mommy Kiss Premium Diapers is softer than the GOO.N Premium Pants.

And because they’re not very thick, they are suitable for day wear. The elastic waistband is stretchy and does not rub on sensitive tummies.

It may be that the Mommy Kiss are more expensive than the GOO.N Premium Pants. But they are better for overnight use.

The diapers are durable and hold up well without leaks. So you can use them at night too. Even after 10 hours’ use, a full (or almost full) diaper retains smell and stays dry.

For chubby toddlers, try the XXXL size for a comfortable fit. Size XXXL is suitable a child of <30kg (~2 year old).

Note: There is however, no significant difference between the XXL or XXXL size for this diaper. Although the sizes are relatively small compared to other brands.

Still, the GOO.N Mommy Kiss Premium Diapers are well worth their price!

Pros:

  • With wetness indicator
  • Have extra large sizes
  • Good fit and quality
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Suitable for day and night use
  • Very absorbent
  • Easy disposal (roll and throw)

Cons:

  • Not a con but you do need to be aware of the sizing before you buy these (sizing runs small)

2. MamyPoko Air Fit Tape

MamyPoko Air Fit Tape Newborn
  • Features: Wetness Indicator, Re-Attachable Tapes, 12 Hour Absorbency, Navel Cut
  • Available Size: NB, S, M, L, XL
  • Price: ~RM52.9

The C shape of the MamyPoko Air Fit Tape diaper fits snugly around your baby’s bottom without putting pressure on their tummy!

Futhermore, the navel protection waistline helps prevent your newborn from feeling the discomfort of a diaper rubbing against their healing navel.

In addition, the diaper edges gather around the legs and the back so that there are lower chances of leaks! But getting the right size is very important to avoid leaks (e.g. S is too small for a 6kg baby)!

And if you have a chubby baby, this diaper will fit tightly on your baby despite being in the recommended weight range. Watch out for signs of fidgeting (e.g. scratching their belly) in their sleep!

It’s worth noting that the MamyPoko Air Fit Tape diaper is not good as a nighttime diaper for babies:

The core soaks up urine quickly. Causing a poor fit. So baby will likely need a nappy changes after a few hours! So the true absorbency is not near as high as stated (i.e. not 12 hours).

Parents on a budget will bulk at the price eventually too. Because they can turn to cheaper diapers like the PetPet E-Tape Diapers instead for a more economical option.

But if you can afford it and your baby is of small to average size, the MamyPoko Air Fit Tape diaper is very comfortable and soft!

Besides that, MamyPoko Air Fit Tape also eradicates the look and feeling of bulkiness under your baby’s pants.

Another huge plus point is that it has both a roll up tape for easy disposal as well as a wetness indicator so you don’t need to keep peeking into the diaper to check!

Pros:

  • With a convenient wetness indicator
  • Comfortable around the legs and navel
  • Easy to change and dispose diapers (i.e. Roll up tape)
  • Slim design for reduced bulkiness

Cons:

  • Tight on chubby babies
  • Once full, the fit is not as good (possible leakage)
  • Expensive for daily longer term use

Specially designed for premature babies and smaller newborns (Best Comfort):

3. Genki Diapers Pant

Genki Diapers Pant M
  • Features: Absorbent Core, Breathable Outer Cover, Front Side Is Indicated, Tear At Sides To Remove
  • Available Size: M, L, XL, XXL
  • Price: ~RM30 (42, 36, 30, 24 pcs)

Genki Diapers Pant has your baby’s comfort in mind with very soft elastic edging around the waist and legs! And since the elastic around the waist is super soft, it does not leave red marks on baby’s skin.

While still minimizing leaks! Of course, this depends on your child’s activity levels too.

The Genki Diapers Pants allows you to easily tear the sides for easy removal. At the same time, the tabs and sides are strong enough to not snap if the diaper is full or if your baby is moving about.

Note: The sizing for Genki diapers run smaller than MamyPoko diapers.

Leaks are uncommon and so we do recommend these baby diapers (Genki Diapers Pant) for active babies!

But with no wetness indicators, you will have to manually check to see if the diaper is full.

Another downside when it comes to changing the diapers, is that it is difficult to differentiate the front from the back especially when you are on the road or in a dark room!

Also, there is no tape to seal up soiled diapers so we suggest you keep some old newspapers or perhaps even some tape ready by the changing table!

On the whole, the Genki Diaper Pants is affordable enough for parents who are on a budget. The fact that it comes from a Japanese brand is a bonus!

Pros:

  • Suitable for active babies (i.e. less chances of leakage)
  • Affordable
  • Soft waistline
  • Strong material that doesn’t break easily
  • Sides tear easily for quick changing

Cons:

  • No roll up tape for neat disposal
  • No wetness indicators
  • Front and back looks the same

4. Moony Natural Baby Diaper Pants

Moony Natural Baby Diapers Pant M
  • Features: Soft Tapes, Navel Cut, 12-Hour Absorbency
  • Available Size: NB, S, M, L, XL
  • Price: ~RM61.3

Moony Natural Baby Diaper Pants use natural materials for parts of the diaper that make contact with your baby’s skin. The organic material is great for babies that are prone to rashes when sweating.

Plus with the hot Malaysian weather, we recommend getting organic materials for more breathability. An alternative organic product would be the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper Pants.

And if you are looking for thin baby diapers, the Moony Natural Baby Diaper Pants is thicker compared to the MamyPoko Air Fit Tape diaper!

Furthermore, if you have previous experience using the Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diapers, keep in mind that the Moony Natural Baby Diapers Pants runs smaller comparatively.

Something to be aware of if your child is larger than average!

One other thing that you should note is that the back of the diapers is short and leaks at times. Especially if your child has a heavier output or runny poop.

So you may have to change more frequently (there is a wetness indicator to show you when) which makes it unfavorable for overnight use.

But changing is relatively mess-free with the roll up tape for easy disposal!

Pros:

  • With a wetness indicator
  • Roll up tape for convenient nappy disposal
  • Comfortable with a navel cut
  • Great for sensitive skin
  • Made from organic materials (i.e. breathable)

Cons:

  • Run small
  • Leaking issue for heavy wetters (i.e.unsuitable for overnight use)

5. Huggies Dry Diapers Tape

Huggies Dry Diapers Tape M
  • Features: 12-Hour Absorbency (5 Layers), Clinically-Proven To Prevent Diaper Rash/ Dermatitis, Breathable Outer Layer, Leak Guards At Legs
  • Available Size: S, M, L, XL, XXL
  • Price: ~RM154.5 (192pcs)

single change in one day is technically possible with the Huggies Dry Diapers Tape!

Although you should not be subjecting your baby to such discomfort! Frequent changes are still advisable for optimum health of your baby.

However, the occasional runny poo may escape from behind as the diaper doesn’t cover the tummy!

And with no wetness indicators or roll up tape, cleaning up will be a bit more tedious so be sure to keep some papers nearby to wrap up the soiled diapers!

For chubby babies, you will find that the fit may not be very comfortable as it runs small. Smaller than Pampers.

Moreover, the Huggies Dry Diapers Tape can leave red marks on thighs due to the stiffer fabric of the tape or a poor fit.

So you can consider Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diapers instead.

Small babies will fit the Huggies Dry Diapers Tape best! And if there is no issue in the sizing department, the diaper is great for babies with sensitive skin as this diaper is unscented!

Pros:

  • No fragrance – good for sensitive skin
  • Fits slim babies
  • High absorbency (~4 hours)
  • Pants variation available
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • No wetness indicators
  • No roll up tape
  • Runs small
  • Short waistline could result in poop leakage from the back

6. PetPet E-Tape Diapers

PetPet E-Tape Diapers L Size
  • Features: Leaks Protection Up To 10 Hours
  • Available Size: M, L, XL
  • Price: ~RM100 (156, 198, 240 pcs)

PetPet E-Tape Diapers are long with a wide waistband and leg leak guards for optimized leak prevention.

Despite this, PetPet E-Tape Diapers do tend to leak runny poo from the back and the sides of the legs when used for a long time.

The absorbent layers in the diaper get lumpy and split when full. Which results in liquid seeping through the cracks of the diaper.

So you may want to use PetPet E-Tape Diapers just for toddlers with solid poo that are beginning to wean off diapers. Rather than for babies below 1 year old with poo that is still loose and watery.

Furthermore, you need to be on the lookout for signs of a full diaper as this diaper does not come with a wetness indicator! Another reason to use these for day time only.

And although all soiled diapers reek, the PetPet E-Tape Diapers are not particularly good at sealing in unpleasant smells when they are full!

In addition, if you are a regular user of Drypers, you will find that PetPet E-Tape Diapers is not as soft comparatively. The rougher texture is not advisable for newborns.

They are however, undeniably very economical if you buy them in bulk!

Busy parents will find that the brand is readily available in most stores! There’s a good chance your local sundry, 7 Eleven or KK Mart stock them too! Perfect for emergencies!

Promo/Review video:

Pros:

  • Affordable in bulk
  • Easy to find in stores
  • Wide waistbands
  • Keeps solid excrement well

Cons:

  • No roll up tape or wetness indicators
  • Leaks runny poo easily
  • Does not contain smell well
  • Rough on newborn skin

7. Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper Pants

Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper Pants XL
  • Features: Flexible Waistband, Absorbent Core, Re-Fastenable Velcro Tabs, Double Leak Guards, Breathable
  • Available Size: L, XL
  • Price: ~RM135 (78pcs)

Bulky pampers are a thing of the past with this certified cruelty-freevegan and eco-friendly diaper pants by Offspring.

The diapers are safe for sensitive skin too (i.e. free from chlorine, dyes, leads and fragrance)!

Active babies will thrive in the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper as it allows your baby to move easily and comfortably while retaining the contents well.

However depending on your baby’s size, the diaper can leave marks on the tummy area so you may not want to use it if your baby has a sore navel.

It is a thin diaper which makes it light and breathable for day use. The material feels similar to what Japanese diaper brands like Genki and Merries use.

Although the sides of the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diapers don’t tear as easily as the Genki’s. Genki’s can be cheaper too.

Note that while the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diapers can be used for overnight diapers too, they don’t hold as much liquid as the Offspring standard or fashion diapers.

Alternatively for heavier protection, you can also consider Whoopee Tape Diapers.

As for features, the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper Pants offers roll up tape but alas, there are no wetness indicators (i.e. to reduce chemicals used) so be prepared to do the peek and sniff test!

Some inconvenience on your part, but we think the pros outweigh the cons for the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diapers!

Pros:

  • Has roll up tape
  • Great for sensitive skin (e.g. no fragrance or chlorine)
  • Does not shift with baby’s movements
  • Especially soft around thigh area
  • Very lightweight
  • Snug fit at waist
  • High quality
  • Reasonably priced considering the quality

Cons:

  • No wetness indicators
  • Can leave marks on tummy and aggravate sore navels
  • Sides are not easy to tear open

8. Whoopee Tape Diapers

Whoopee Tape Diapers S
  • Features: Re-Fastenable Tabs, Absorbent Core, Stretchy Waistband, Leak Guards
  • Available Size: S, M, L, XL, XXL
  • Price: ~RM79.9 (234, 207, 180, 162, 144pcs)

You can start your newborn out with the small Whoopee Tape Diapers! For both day and night use!

If you have used other brands before, these do seem a little firmer. But they won’t leak easily! The design, thickness, and how it tears at the sides is actually very similar to Genki’s diapers/ pants.

Note: Both diaper brands are under the same corporation, Oji Holdings Corporation.

Unfortunately, there is no roll up tape to wrap soiled diapers and there is no wetness indicator. If this is something you need, consider Moony Natural Baby Diaper Pants instead.

However, poo can show through the back of the diaper, so you will be able to visibly check that if a nappy change is in order! Looks kind of unsightly but it is practical.

You will also detect an unpleasant odor when the nappy is soiled!

The Whoopee Tape Diaper itself gives off a strong, almost chemical-like scent. Be wary if this causes any adverse reactions to your child.

If your baby has sensitive skin, you may want to go for the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper Pants instead!

Another limitation of the Whoopee Tape Diaper is the waistband which sits lower than other diaper brands:

It does not come up high on the tummy area which is unusual for baby diapers in Malaysia. And this can cause poo leakages from the back if the diaper is full.

On the other hand, Whoopee Tape Diapers come with magic tapes! These adhesive tapes are strong enough for you to refasten the diaper multiple times without the tab losing its stickiness.

Note: When using these diapers, do watch out for rashes and signs of redness around the thighs.

Pros:

  • Magic tapes are very effective (i.e. can be refastened many times)
  • Contents are visible through the diaper (i.e. easy monitoring)
  • Able to use overnight
  • Soft and comfortable for babies with stretchy waistband
  • Inexpensive
  • Don’t leak from the sides

Cons:

  • No roll up tape or wetness indicator
  • Short waistband allows poo to escape from the back
  • Causes redness around thighs for some babies
  • Strong chemical smell (take extra precaution for babies with sensitive skin)

9. Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn

Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn
  • Features: Soft Tabs With Flexi Tape, Stretchy Waistband, Leak Guards, 12 Hour Absorbency, Breathable
  • Available Size: NB, S, M, L, XL
  • Price: ~RM48 (80pcs)

When you touch the Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn, you’ll notice that it feels quite thick and soft! However, they’re not as soft as the MamyPoko Airfit Tape diapers! But they are considerably cheaper!

Still, they are not budget friendly but are definitely worth the spend if you are looking for less changes throughout the night.

As long as you can accept that there is no wetness indicators or roll up tape for easy disposal of the diapers.

Because aside from great absorption, the Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn hardly leaks too. The leak guards prevent spillage.

And thus, the Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn allows both parents and infant to catch up on some sleep!

A further precaution is for the baby to be swaddled during the night. Because the tape can come off easily if baby moves a lot! Or if they like picking at the tabs!

On a side note, you will not have to worry about rashes and red marks. Plus, the navel cut design will not rub against your baby’s umbilical cord stump!

And just so you are aware of it, the cut of the Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn is a little slimmer than other brands (with the exception of Huggies) too.

Promo video:

Pros:

  • Navel cut design is comfortable
  • Less changes needed
  • Suitable for overnight use (i.e. high absorbency and leakproof)
  • Soft on the skin

Cons:

  • No roll up tape
  • No wetness indicators
  • Tape is not very sticky (not for super active babies)
  • Not the cheapest

For sensitive skin:

10. Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape Diapers

Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape Diapers L
  • Features: Flexi Tape, Leakage Protection (Large Side Guards)
  • Available Size: NB, S, M, L, XL, XXL
  • Price: ~RM165 (220pcs)

A total of 6 absorbent layers does mean that the Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape Diapers are stiffer than other diapers such as MamyPoko or Huggies. Especially at the back!

Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape Diapers runs a bit small compared to the other brands in this list.

If the fit is right, the Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape diapers have the ability to contain explosive poops and can keep your baby dry for up to ~ 5 hours.

And so they are a reasonably affordable option for a nighttime diaper! Much cheaper than the Drypers Touch Diapers For Newborn.

However, the Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape diapers are not as absorbent as those by Pampers.

Or as leakproof! The diapers do occasionally leak when full. Although, the presence of a wetness indicator helps in early detection!

On a further note, Drypers Wee Wee Dry Tape Diapers are not suitable for active babies.  If you have a runner on your hands, you will quickly find that the tapes don’t hold the diaper up when full.

And while the diapers are meant to be withstand multiple refastenings (as needed), once or twice seems to be the maximum before the tackiness of the glue wears out!

Review video:

Pros:

  • Has wetness indicators
  • Affordable
  • Suitable fit for small infants
  • Good absorption

Cons:

  • No roll up tape
  • Leaks when full
  • Unsuitable for active babies
  • Tape is not very sticky (diaper can fall when full)

11. Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diapers

Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diapers M
  • Features: 3 Layer Absorbency, Leak Guard (For Soft Poo), Back Gathers
  • Available Size: NB, S, M, L, XL
  • Price: ~RM219 (216pcs)

While on the pricier side, the Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diapers will leave you satisfied with its superior quality!

In addition, mums with plump babies will appreciate that that their baby can definitely fit the Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diapers!

The diapers have a wider and more flexible cutting than other diaper brands in Malaysia! Providing bigger babies with more room to move and breathe.

Without being too bulky and preventing those nasty red marks on your baby’s skin too!

Only disadvantage with the Merries Super Premium Tape Baby Diaper is that it lacks roll up tape. However, the diaper does come with a handy wetness indicator!

Pros:

  • Has wetness indicators
  • Wider cutting for bigger babies
  • Minimal issues with leakage
  • Great quality

Cons:

  • No roll up tape
  • Pricey

Cloth Diapers Malaysia

Also known as reusable diapers in Malaysia:

1. FIFFY Baby Napkins 98-881

Form first impressions, these old-school napkins do appear thin and can be on the rough side, so perhaps save it for older babies that don’t have as sensitive skin.

But when stretched out the napkins should be large enough for a newborn baby. And these baby napkins do not shrink after washing. They also dry very quickly!

FIFFY Baby Napkins 98-881

We like that the fabric is breathable. Great if your baby is suffering from rashes or the summer heat!

Still, the FIFFY Baby Napkins 98-881 can’t hold a lot of liquid. So be prepared for frequent diaper changes!

Alternatively, you can add a fleece layer or an absorbent cloth insert if you want to stop leakages during the night!

The great thing about these napkins is that when baby grows out of them, the napkins can be used in so many other ways. Burp clothes, cleaning rags, etc.

  • Features: 100% cotton
  • Size: 76 x 76 cm
  • Warranty: 1 month
  • Price: ~RM33.9 (10pcs)

Pros:

  • Breathable soft thin fabric
  • Not expensive
  • Wide enough for babies
  • Reusable
  • Versatile use
  • Wash and dry well

Cons:

  • Fabric is a bit scratchy
  • Not absorbent enough on their own

2. Tenderly Baby Napkins

Soft (as soft as muslin is like to get anyways) and cute, the Tenderly Baby Napkins are breathable, fast-drying and absorbent!

One set has 4 plain napkins and another 4 that are patterned.

Tenderly Baby Napkins

There are picture-based instructions on how to use them too! They are meant for babies up to 5kg.

Tenderly Baby Napkins are some of the thicker baby napkins you can find around! Along with those by Pureen!

But similar to the FIFFY Baby Napkins 98-881, you may still want to add on liners for night use! Tenderly does carry nappy liners too.

  • Features: 100% cotton
  • Size: 76 x 76 cm
  • Warranty: n/a
  • Price: ~RM35.75 (8pcs)

Pros:

  • Cute alphabet print
  • Good quality
  • 100% cotton for great ventilation
  • Can be used in many ways once baby outgrows them

Cons:

  • Low absorbency rate (i.e. can’t hold much)

Notes:

  • There are a lot more cloth diapers that we didn’t mention.
  • And the higher quality ones can cost ~RM8 per piece (without the insert).
  • If it doesn’t bother you, you can always get cloth diapers secondhand. And buy the inserts new!

Types Of Baby Diapers

1. Disposable Diapers

Usually made of multiple synthetic layers:

These can be further categorized into tape or pant types, depending on your baby’s development in mobility. Tape types are made for babies that haven’t started crawling yet!

Pros:

  • Convenient to use
  • Leak proof

Cons:

  • Cost more in the long term
  • Not environmentally-friendly (e.g. newborns can go through 8-10 diapers a day!)
  • Poor breathability

2. Cloth Diapers

Sometimes you can find cloth diapers made of natural fibers like bamboo or cotton. Which let your baby’s skin breathe a lot better!

These can be just simple squares of cotton (i.e. napkins) – like the good old days! Where you may need safety pins to hold them in place!

Others have washable inserts and adjustable snaps all over on the outside so that the diaper can keep up with your child as they grow.

Pros:

  • Adjustable (some)
  • You can keep them for your next baby (i.e. economical)
  • More environmentally-friendly (Did you know that Malaysian landfills consist of more than *12.1% used diapers? – major yuck!)
  • Breathable (depending on the material)

Cons:

  • More effort in cleaning and putting them on baby

3. Organic Diapers

The majority of best pampers in Malaysia still use synthetic materials and chemicals.

And although organic diapers sound better for your baby, diaper companies are seldom (if ever) 100% organic.

Also, a diaper company/brand may only list out certain parts of their process that sound good to the consumer (e.g. sustainably-sourced wood pulp, etc).

While conveniently leaving out mention of synthetic and potentially harmful chemicals used (e.g. dioxin from the bleaching process).

How To Choose The Best Diaper For Your Baby

Choosing a diaper for your baby is thankfully not as complex as selecting the best baby milk powder or best breast pump!

1. Unscented

In an effort to make the contents of diapers smell less foul, diaper companies often make diapers scented.

And companies are not compelled to disclose out the ingredients, choosing to use general terms like “Fragrance” instead.

If your baby has sensitive skin, it’s best to shy away from scented diapers. To avoid diaper rashes and worse, risk to their respiratory systems!

2. Reuseable/ Adjustable

In case you need to readjust or check if your baby has done their thing!

A good fit prevents leaks too. And having adjustable tabs ensures that your baby is as comfortable as possible!

3. Diaper Size

Too tight is uncomfortable (especially around the legs). And too loose will result in unwanted leaks! You don’t want to stain that brand new child car seat!

It’s time to change size when the diaper can’t hold as much anymore (i.e. baby’s urine flow has increased).

Or when you start seeing red lines around your baby’s thighs and belly.

4. Wetness Indicator

For new parents, this can be a lifesaver! A change of color in the diaper is enough to immediately let you know that it’s time to change to a fresh diaper!

And it’ll help you to avoid unwanted staining on your new baby stroller!

5. Absorbency

No one wants to get up several times a night to change the little one’s diaper! There is such a thing as an overnight diaper (i.e. those than can hold for up to 12 hours)!

Just for your information, you should never allow your baby to be in a diaper for hours on end. And newborns should be changed as many as 10 times a day!

In contrast, a toddler may need 5 diaper changes a day.

Conclusion

Disposable diapers are regrettably the only option for busy parents. In our opinion, the best diapers in Malaysia are the Genki diapers. Which offer a good balance of quality vs price.

However if you can afford to, go organic. Like the Offspring Ultra-Thin Diaper Pants.

But if it’s an option for you, do consider reusable cloth diapers and baby napkins over disposable diapers! These save you money and help reduce the amount of trash in the environment!

Once you’re done, check out our article on the best baby shops in and around KL, so you know where exactly you can get your diapers from.
