You can’t use the weather or traffic as an excuse anymore once you have the best treadmill in Malaysia 2022. Right in your home!

Treadmill prices in Malaysia can rival or be higher than a KL gym membership. But in the long run, you will be saving money! Especially if other people in your household can use it too!

Don’t know the first thing about treadmills? We have some recommendations on reliable treadmills to share with you!

Types Of Treadmill

1. Manual Treadmill

As the name might imply, manual treadmills do not rely on electricity. Instead, you have to move the belt on your own!

In a way, it’s safer without the risk of you falling off the moving belt! Beginners who are not used to treadmills may find this more appealing!

A really simply model (i.e. no heart or distance monitoring) will not cost much!

2. Motorized Treadmill

A motorized or electric treadmill is a hefty machine that will take up considerable space so make sure you check the dimensions first before getting one!

Most gyms and health clubs will have these as they are more durable than the manual counterparts!

Electric treadmills can make your workout session more enjoyable with accessories and numerous preset programs. Or an audio port so you can play music directly from them!

3. Folding Treadmill

These can be either manual or motorized treadmills. Fold up designs can be packed away when not needed.

Some even have wheels to help you store the machine away!

However, foldability does not equate to portability. These types of treadmills can still be heavy to shift from one place to another! And you may be losing out on some features (e.g. inclination).

Check out our how-to guide further down this post to learn more about treadmills!

But has multiple functions (e.g. pulse rate sensor, music player, and emergency stop)! Which is unusual for a treadmill in this price range!

And is good enough for a 30-minute walking or jogging (under 11kmph) session! The size suits petite builds better. Though it can support 90kg comfortably for light runs too.

At speed 9 (from speed 3, 6 and 9), the treadmill does become wobbly if you weigh near 80kg!

Installation is easy too. The instruction booklet (in English) given is clear. Once assembled, the treadmill takes little space. It can be folded up manually if you want it out of the way.

While the machine feels robust, the belt is on the thin side. And is audible when you use it.

2. Fitness Concept Trax Trail Runner Treadmill TRX-T3018

Perhaps the best thing about the Fitness Concept Trax Trail Runner Treadmill TRX-T3018 is that it has auto lubrication!

That, and that it is made with the average user in mind! You can monitor your performance from the LCD display in front of you! As well as charge your phone with this treadmill (via USB)!

There are built-in programs to suit different abilities and levels. There is brisk walking, running, and basically what you would need for your daily 30 minute workout on the treadmill!

The treadmill does not sound noisy, even at higher speeds (e.g. speed 10). You may however, finding that the timing is not so accurate (~1-2 minute variance).

While you work out, you can listen to music as there is a jack for MP3.

This is quite a bulky treadmill so make sure you have the space to assemble it! But the treadmill does come with assembly instructions so no worries on that front!

What the Fitness Concept Trax Trail Runner Treadmill TRX-T3018 does not have, is a wide range of inclination! As you will only be able to manually adjust it for 3-5% inclination!

Hence, we would not suggest the Fitness Concept Trax Trail Runner Treadmill TRX-T3018 to those who really want to work on their stamina and leg strength!

3. Columbus Fitness S800 Treadmill

Just under a RM1,500 budget, the Columbus Fitness S800 Treadmill comes highly recommended if you’re looking for a budget treadmill for running up to speeds of 16km/h!

It’s got a 3.5HP motor, is silent and stable with auto inclination up to 15%! Which is already a clear advantage over the Columbus Fitness Motorized Treadmill I101 if you want a treadmill with inclination!

Columbus Fitness S800 Treadmill

The track is wide and long enough for people of larger frames. The maximum weight the treadmill can take is 120kg after all.

However, it’s far from perfect and has some setbacks:

Firstly, it’s very heavy and you will need at least 2 people to carry it into your home. Installation is straightforward with 8 screws. It’s easy to fold for storage.

There’s also no pause button! Or a place to put your phone. The speakers are poorly.

On a more positive note, there is a heart rate reader (not so accurate) that you can access easily from the handle bar. Together with the speed and incline settings!

For the most part, the treadmill is quiet but anything faster than 10km/h (e.g. sprinting) will generate some noise. And at times, the running belt may run to one side. It’s not easy to adjust it back either.

4. Johnson Fitness Tempo T82 Treadmill Running Machine

There are a few things to take into consideration if you want to get the Johnson Fitness Tempo T82 Treadmill Running Machine:

Johnson Fitness Tempo T82 Treadmill

It may be stable and solid for walking and running, while being reasonably quiet and smooth. With enough support from the suspension system for your joints.

As well as the ability to incline up to 10% for some cardio sessions!

But you may not like that the width of the belt is narrow. And the treadmill does not ease into a complete stop.  Aside from that, the heart rate detector is slow too.

Minor issues would be the extra bright LEDs. And that you need 2 people for assembly. If you like to use the FitDisplay app, you won’t be able to with this treadmill!

5. Johnson Fitness Horizon T101 Treadmill

If you’re an avid runner, the Johnson Fitness Horizon T101 Treadmill is one of the best home treadmills you can buy in Malaysia!

Like the other Johnson treadmills, there is 3-zone cushioning (push off, transition and impact).

And like the Johnson Fitness Tempo T82 Treadmill Running Machine, the Johnson Fitness Horizon T101 Treadmill is capable of setting incline angles between 0° to 10° automatically!

Although it may not look like it since it is quite large, this is a foldable treadmill too! The quality matches those you would use in a gym. Ideal for casual home users planning to run at speeds of 9-10km/hr!

It supports a much higher maximum weight than the Johnson Fitness Tempo T82 Treadmill Running Machine (124kg vs 115kg).

So even if you weigh 90-100kg, this will feel sturdy! The track is long enough for those around 175cm too. But those ~120kg and around 180cm tall should go for the Johnson 7.0AT model instead.

Plus, it has a good selection of running programs you can choose from the console. Which is the only part that shakes if you’re running at full speed on this treadmill!

Because of its bulk and weight, you don’t want to leave the lifting or assembly to 1 person! The included instruction book will be useful in the assembly process!

Lastly, you get a built-in fan and speakers with the Johnson Fitness Horizon T101 Treadmill. You can play music from your phone via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the speakers aren’t very loud!

Johnson Fitness Horizon T101 Treadmill
  • Motor: 2.5 CHP DC Motor
  • Incline Range: Motorized, 0-10%

6. Reebok Astroride 2.0 Runner Running Treadmill

You can pair your wireless earbuds with the Reebok Astroride 2.0 Runner Running Treadmill as it does not have its own speakers!

However, it feels like you’re running on a softer surface with the responsive deck and cushioning technology! The padding really helps reduce impact on your knees!

The running area is wide enough (130 x 45 cm) even for those around 6ft height.

As sturdy as it is, it’s not difficult to fold up when you don’t need it. But since it’s not bulky, you can keep it permanently in your room too!

We like that there’s space below the display to keep your daily essentials and water bottle within reach. Unfortunately, this treadmill only allows manual inclination.

Assembly takes 30 minutes to a little more than an hour with instructions to guide you. Just be sure that you have other people at home to help you carry it when it arrives as it is not light (~60-70kg)!

Overall, if you have the budget for it, Reebok Astroride 2.0 Runner Running Treadmill is a solid choice for a simple treadmill that can cater for light workouts, recovery and stamina training!

  • Control panel is hard to read if you’re short sighted
  • Heavy to transport and install
  • Display is small – a tablet can block most of it

7. KingSmith XIAOMI Walking Pad Foldable Treadmill R2

Surprisingly heavy for its compact profile, the Kingsmith XIAOMI WalkingPad Foldable Treadmill R2 is as functional as it is attractive!

This is actually the upgraded version of the original R1 Walkingpad.

XIAOMI Kingsmith WalkingPad Foldable Treadmill R2 - Folded

Because it can fold small enough (180°) to fit under a sofa, it’s the best treadmill for small living spaces or apartments! The maximum speed is 12km/h – an increase from the R1 Walkingpad (10km/h)!

The one compromise you have to make is its inability to tilt (I.e. incline). But you can control the speed with your feet – just by stepping on certain areas of the deck (e.g. blue for deceleration).

Other than this, the treadmill is both easy and comfortable to use either in manual or auto mode. It remains stable even on the max speed.

In addition, it only emits a low hum so you can use it while watching your favorite TV series! Thanks to the brushless motor – another upgrade from the R1 Walkingpad. Along with the brighter LED display!

It comes with a manual book (in English) and is easy to install. You can pair it with the KS Fit app (also in English) or the remote control!

XIAOMI Kingsmith WalkingPad Foldable Treadmill R2
  • Motor: 1.25CHP

  • With user-friendly functions
  • Works with the KS Fit app
  • Anti-slip
  • Has EVA cushioning

Cons:

  • Still too heavy to carry around the home (i.e. up and down the stairs) – weighs 36kg

8. Columbus Fitness Motorized Treadmill i101

Inexpensive at ~RM1,000:

Columbus Fitness Motorized Treadmill i101may have been a top pick for value for money. With its high power, long warranty, folding capability (handle folds down), and other features.

If not for the running area!  Which is shorter and narrower than the recommended minimum dimensions of 122 x 46cm. So it may be uncomfortable for bigger frames.

You will also be stuck with just one angle. As this treadmill does not allow for inclination! Nor does it have auto stop, or great speakers! As the built-in Bluetooth speakers don’t get very loud!

But you can connect your phone to the treadmill to play music!

Other issues to be aware of are the insensitive remote control buttons and a tendency for the belt to heat up after 10 minutes’ use or to come off track!

Mind that the track is also not supportive (i.e. too hard) enough if you have pain in your knees!

In conclusion, if you happen to have a small frame and just want a compact treadmill for light jogging, you can get the Columbus Fitness Motorized Treadmill i101!

The manual is included so you should have no problem with installation.

Columbus Fitness Motorized Treadmill i101

Moreover, the top speed it can cater is 14km/h. And it’s more expensive.

However, if you’re not one for DIY installation, you’ll really appreciate that Ogawa will install the treadmill for you. And that the build quality of the treadmill matches its price tag.

The OGAWA Trek Pro T7.2 Lite Treadmill is bigger than it appears to be on the picture.

All the functions you need are conveniently on the handle (e.g. stop/start, speed settings, etc).

But you don’t have to worry as the Ogawa installation team should explain everything! Including the 12 programs available with this treadmill!

For casual home users that do not require inclination, the OGAWA Trek Pro T7.2 Lite Treadmill makes jogging enjoyable.

One other drawback (besides the lack of inclination) is that the display refreshes right after you finish using the treadmill, so you don’t get much time to check out your results!

PS: If the brand sounds familiar, Ogawa also sells massage chairs!

OGAWA Trek Pro T7.2 Lite Treadmill

10. GINTELL SmarTrek Plus Treadmill FT470

Designed for running with joint protection:

The GINTELL SmarTrek Plus Treadmill FT470 is compact and of sound quality! The wide speed range and huge program selection caters for beginners and experts alike!

There’re thoughtful slots to put your tablet and bottle where you can reach them while running too! The treadmill is not loud but it will vibrate a little from Speed 6 and onwards, depending on your weight!

In addition, running on this treadmill is not super smooth – there is this weird jerking movement when you run on the belt!

And if you want to run with music, you’ll need your own wireless headphones or ear buds because this treadmill doesn’t have its own speakers!

You might also wonder how the GINTELL SmarTrek Plus Treadmill FT470 compares to the GINTELL SmarTREK Pro Treadmill (FT480) or SmarTREK Motorized Treadmill (FT400):

For starters, the SmarTREK Motorized Treadmill (FT400) takes less user weight than the other 2 models (100kg vs 110kg or 130kg). With the lowest peak HP (2.0HP vs 3.0 HP). But it is the cheapest model at ~RM3,000.

The running area of the SmarTREK Motorized Treadmill (FT400) is also significantly smaller at 110cm (L) x 42cm (W).

If you have really long strides, take the SmarTREK Pro Treadmill (FT480) as the running area is 128.5cm x 45cm. In comparison, the GINTELL SmarTrek Plus Treadmill FT470 has a shorter running area 120 x 45 cm (even though their speed range is the same – 1.0 – 16.0 KM/H).

Furthermore, don’t get the SmarTREK Motorized Treadmill (FT400) if you want automatic incline! If you weigh more than 100kg, get the GINTELL SmarTrek Plus Treadmill FT470 which supports up to 130 kg!

How To Choose The Best Treadmill

1. Workout Space & Treadmill Size

It all comes down to how often you will be using the treadmill! And how much space you have in your home!

Most treadmills intended for home use measure more than 6ft long, and are 3 ft wide. So in a small home, it seems more practical to get a fold up treadmill!

And if you’re really pressed for space, why not get the best yoga mat in Malaysia?

2. Motorized Or Non-Motorized

If you don’t mind the extra exertion:

Or you will be walking most of the time, a manual treadmill will meet your basic needs (and budget). And it actually enables you to burn more calories. Provided you have enough determination to start!

Best for: Short workouts, walking

For those who like to vary their workouts:

A powered treadmill is a more valuable investment! As there will be different programs to try! And you don’t have to strain your joints to get it started!

Best for: Endurance workouts, running and walking

3. Trusted Brand

A well-known brand will not skimp on quality if they want to keep up their reputation!

Ask around and read reviews (like this one) to compare different models and brands.

Some brands even have a return policy for their product!

4. Look For A Safety Shut Off

Although, most treadmills should have this:

It’s worthwhile to ensure that the model you’re interested in has this feature!

This could be as simple as just an attachment between you and the machine. So that if you fall, the attachment will trigger the machine to stop! Another option is an emergency stop button!

5. Other Specifications To Look For

  • Belt size/ running area – Length (At least 48 inches or ~122cm) is important for taking long strides. While a wider width (at least 18 inches or ~46cm) may be more comfortable. The widest you will see is 22 inches (56cm).
  • Motor power/ horsepower (continuous horsepower (CHP)) – If you’re under 90kg, the minimum should be 2.0CHP for walking and 3.0 for running! If you are above 90kg, add another 0.5CHP!
  • Max speed – Planning to run? Look for a minimum of 10mph (16kmph).
  • Maximum weight that the treadmill is rated for
  • Warranty – There should be warranty for the motor. 10 years is great!
  • Incline degree (10% or more) – To give yourself a more intense workout and get your heart pumping! This feature can be set manually or automatically
  • Noise output – A thicker belt tends to be quieter. And will last longer before you need to maintain it or replace it.
  • Low maintenance- The manual should state how often you need to lubricate the machine
  • Cushioning – Unless you want to prepare for a marathon, shock absorbers underneath the belt will take some pressure off your joints! And reduce the shaking of the machine! There is such thing as variable cushioning!
  • App compatibility – so you can connect to your Smartwatch or Smartphone!

Conclusion

The best treadmill in Malaysia for average users who just a quick workout at home is the DQUE Moon Walker Treadmill DQ-T302 (for walking) or the Reebok Astroride 2.0 Runner Running Treadmill (for jogging).
